Hire the Best Home Painting Contractors

The appearance of your home can be increased beyond your wildest dreams just by applying a fresh coat of paint. However, you should make sure you undertake the appropriate background work and research before and during the painting job to ensure your home will truly be a delight to behold. There are a number of people who do a paint job by simply utilising the help of do it yourself guides, but you must know that the easiest and most reliable method to get your house painted is by utilising the service of home painting contractors. Being stalwarts of the field, they have got a far better understanding of home painting and all that it entails.

You should always acquire the services of a reliable painting contractor who has extensive insurance coverage. This will help in avoiding issues in the case of any misadventure. The painting job is not that hassle free as the workers have to climb up and down the walls and cling dangerously to the ladders with one hand while working with the other. If the painting contractor is without insurance coverage, being the owner of the house, you may be called upon to pay for the damage.

You can find many home painting contractors who are very willing to complete the job at cheap rates, but you need to be cautious while dealing with them as they may use cheap, inexperienced labour and substandard materials. The worst case scenario is that you may finally end up paying more money as the work may not be up to standard, require redoing or may not finish on time. Another point to be mentioned is that a lot of the paints are poisonous so it is your duty to make sure that the company uses only products with a low volatile organic compound. If you do ensure this, there will be only a small amount of odour emanating from the fresh paint coat rather than a substantial and possibly dangerous amount. A professional painting contractor can ensure maximum safety of both the workers and your family and can dispose of dangerous materials when the job is completed.

Before the actual work starts off, the staff should be aware of your requirements. Painting, being a job which calls for professionalism, should not be taken lightly. The additional advantage of involving good home painting contractors is that they are in a position to give expert advice regarding colour combinations. Using colours which are not complementary can greatly damage the beauty of the house, even depreciating its real estate value.

Home painting contractors should have the permission of government agencies to operate their business. An authentic contractor will possess yearly tax returns which vouch for his or her credibility. The authorising of your contractors operation should be part of you mandatory pre-checks before finalising the contractor.

Home Painters are a Special Breed of Painters

Home painters are not usually your typical type of person. Since home painting is a work that really needs total care and understanding, this breed of workers has become celebrities in their own way. Many of us would take pride in our houses as the cynosure of all eyes, both from the interior as well as exterior.

An attractively painted house can be a brilliant investment in the long run too. But to preserve your home in an impeccable style, you need to employ painters who have vast knowledge in every aspect of home painting. Minor streaks, wrong paint schemes and inferior quality paints can destroy the appearance of your house. In order to create an exquisite look to the house, you need to do a thorough investigation before employing a painter for your home. To begin with, the painter should be knowledgeable about the most suitable colour schemes. He or she should have deft hands to do the job without flaws. Finally, he or she should be friendly to the customer and should be willing to listen to your suggestions.

Before the actual painting work begins, home painters should examine every wall, eave, window and door to find out if there are any flaws like uneven surfaces and remove every nail, screen and wall hanging. Home painters should also cover up those areas that must not be painted and need to be protected. With painting work comes many different dangers such as falling off the ladder and inhaling chemicals mixed with the paint. Professional painters should come pre-prepared to meet virtually any scenario.

Professional painters may even offer you discounts from their quoted prices. It is usually much better to compare the services and costs offered by different home painters so that you can arrive at a good but cost effective conclusion. The painter also needs to be ready to perform after-painting cleansing completely so that your house glistens spotlessly immediately after the job is finished.

The paint scheme of your abode needs to reflect your lifestyle as well as your moods. No one wants to live in a dark and boring atmosphere. For a house to feel and look wonderful, the painting and overall design scheme applied should be both complementary to the surroundings and the tastes of the inhabitants. Home painters can therefore make or mar your home and mood. So make sure you choose wisely and consult a professional before making a decision on a home painter.

How to Select Good Painters

It looks like you have a painting project that needs to get completed sometime soon. Maybe the outside of your house is looking a little drab. Or maybe you want to repaint the entire interior of your house and you are just not sure of the colours yet. Perhaps you even want to paint your office to match your profession.

Whatever your pending project is you know the best way to get it done quickly and skilfully is to hire some professional painters to do the work. Before you jump the gun and hire the first set of names in the phone book you need to consider some things. After all, there are numerous contractors to choose from. Which one of them is the best to hire? Which of them is best suited to the job you need done?

Take a look at the following few things before you make your ultimate decision:

1.	Study similar buildings.
If you need to have your home repainted, look around at your neighbours’ houses. Find out if it was done by a contractor and if you like the work, ask for their names and contact information. If it is commercial painting contractors that you need simply look around at office buildings similar to yours. When you find something you like ask the owner for the name of their painter. You may even find out more than you bargained for, a personal testimonial, good or bad can be the most valuable information you can receive.

2.	Look at their experience.
While it is great when a painting contractor gives you a low priced quote for a job, there may be a good reason for that. If a contractor has little experience or is new to the industry they will obviously charge you less than a more experienced one. The problem lies in the quality of the work, which often suffers when hiring someone with little experience. Your home could be trashed at the end of the day! Always question contractors on their level of experience, and ask for any references.

3.	Visit these references.
Once you have references from the contractor you are interested in, be sure to follow up on them. Call up the references and talk to them about the work that was done and whether or not they were satisfied. If possible, see if you can visit and see the work that was done for yourself. Be sure to ask about the condition of their property when the painters left. Was a lot of cleaning needed after they left, or did they take care of it all themselves? Was any of the property damaged as a result of their work?

You can find quality painters, all you need to do is invest a little time and do some investigative work on your own.

A Few Tips on Exterior House Painting

There are quite a few things that you absolutely need to have if you intend to paint the exterior of your house. Aside from the obvious paint brushes, paint, effort and energy the most important is a very good contractor. Even if these days most consumers are interested in saving cash and therefore choose to paint their home themselves, there are still many reasons a contractor could be the better and sometimes even cheaper option. Costs can truly stack up if you choose to paint your home yourself and the end result is not satisfactory. Consider the time, effort and skill level required because if things go wrong it may be more costly than you first thought.

The traditional perception when it comes to exterior house painting is that you buy some paint and brushes and you paint the place. The true version of outside wall painting is not as effortless. Completing an exterior house painting job involves a wide range of previous preparations and a fair level of skill and expertise. A contractor will know how to prepare the wall before starting to paint and for that reason you will have a long-lasting paint job finished and impeccable.

Washing, scraping and sanding the walls are the initial steps that the service provider will undergo to prepare the surface. The next step will be the caulking of the joints and the breaks, the level of humidness will drop and the paint will be preserved longer. Before applying the paint the contractor will apply a primer that will attach the paint to the walls and will enable the paint to dry and to better stick to the surfaces.

Many types of safe practices should be taken, if you wish to have an exterior house painting that will last longer. The kind of paint you go for is also very important. Aside from the colour, the most important feature an exterior paint should have is quality. Even if top quality paint is a lot more costly, it will also last longer and it will meet weather modifications and temperature variations much better. Being economical when you shop for the outside paint will cost you additional money in the future when you will have to repaint the house.

Using the services of a contractor is always suggested when you want to paint the outside of your house mainly because they can offer such great advice and information. The appearance of your house is equally significant outside the house as it is inside. Give your home a little bit of style with an eye catching and long lasting exterior house paint job.

Square Foot Price: Estimating the Price of a Paint Job The square metre method of estimating a paint job is [...]

Square Foot Price: Estimating the Price of a Paint Job

The square metre method of estimating a paint job is one of the least intelligent ways to estimate the cost of a paint job. The square foot price estimate is perhaps only second to the wild guess method of estimating a price where a painting contractor takes five seconds to give a very inaccurate price on painting the interior of a house. There are numerous reasons why this method is so very ineffective.

The Square Metre Method warrants acknowledgment, if for no other reason than to point out that although a great many painters subscribe to this method, it really is quite an unwise way to arrive at a price for a paint job. Why is this a bad way to estimate the price you ask? The issue is that no one can estimate the price of a paint job by the floors square footage, there are simply too many other factors to consider. A couple of simple examples will shine some light on the darkness of this method.

One room may require the walls to be filled and sanded before the trims are done so that dust and dirt does not get trapped in your nicely glossed trims. Once this has been completed, trim coats, which must cure for 24 hours prior to painting the walls, will need to be completed. Finally the painting of the walls will need to be completed. The reason the walls are painted after the trims is that it makes it easier to cut or edge back into a small edge rather than cut back in to a large edge, this will ensure your wall has a very even finish.

In another room the walls may need to also be filled and sanded but the skirtings are completed last. By painting the skirtings last you minimise the risk of paint spots coming off the roller or walls and getting into your finished skirtings. Completing the skirtings last also means you do not need to wait until they are dry enough to tape up with blue tape. By completing the room in this manner a painter will have to cut the skirtings into the wall. This means the painter will need a fair amount of skill and a very steady hand.

If these two rooms were the same size the price estimate using the square foot method would be the same. However, you can see that both rooms require different skills and products which should be taken into account before giving an estimate. Furthermore, what if one room had a french door, which takes approximately double the amount of time to paint than a flush door? What if one of the rooms has six doors while the other only has one? What about the number of windows in a room or the amount of molding and crown molding?

If you are still not convinced you should consider the fact that the square meterage of the floor does not even take into account the actual surface area of the walls! If the ceiling height of room one was 6.5 meters and room two was 13 metres the price estimate would be exactly the same! Hopefully this alone demonstrates how ludicrous the square foot price estimate method really is.

If you or someone you know is considering painting the interior of their home, have the contractor come into the home and give a quote based on their examination of the room. A more accurate estimate will ensure there are no surprise costs further down the track.

A Guide to Choosing Interior Paint Colours

Many factors should be taken into account when choosing interior paint colours. The certain style you are trying to achieve, key furniture and the era of your home are all factors in choosing the right colour for you. Even though there are so many variables that influence you when choosing a colour, you should still follow some guidelines when picking interior paint colours.

Do not rush into a paint colour choice
There are thousands of different colours available, so you should plan it out first before rushing in. Go to a hardware store to gather some paint chips or swabs that you like. Things might look different once they are actually in your room, so you should make sure to get a variety of paint chips.

When you get home with your paint chips, you should compare them with everything in your room to get an idea on how it will look. Make sure that the colour is well suited to everything in the room you are remodelling. You can also ask for opinions from other people if you have trouble picking a colour. They may see something that you simply do not.

Make your own interior paint colour
If you can not find a paint colour that you love for a room, then you may want to think about making your own colour. Most stores now offer custom colours where a colour you bring in to the store can be matched. You can even bring in a fabric swatch to have them match the colour. This may cost you more in the long run, but it may be worth it to get the style that you desire from your room.

Choose an interior paint finish
Picking a finish is the next step after deciding on the actual colour you want. The paint will be affected by the finish you choose. Paint colours can change brightness depending on the finish you choose. There are many finishes to choose from including:

•	A flat finish. The flat finish is a dull or matte finish. This finish, since light does not reflect off it, works as a great camouflage to mask imperfections. This may not be ideal for a person’s room or a high traffic area since the walls maybe hard to clean.
•	An eggshell finish. The eggshell finish gives the walls the shine of an eggshell. These finishes have become more popular because they are easier to clean and still have some shine to reflect the light in the room.
•	A satin finish. The Satin Finish has a small shine to it as well as a smooth appearance. Since many rooms have a high level of foot traffic, satin finishes are ideal because they are easier to clean.
•	A glossy finish. A glossy finish explains itself. It has a very high shine to it. Semi-gloss finishes are similar to gloss finishes but have less shine than them. A glossy finish is used for accessories like doors and trim rather than a whole wall.

Even if the colour of a room can be changed quickly, it would be best to choose a paint style that matches your style and is easy on the eyes. Changing the paint colour of a room can truly change the whole look of the entire room.

Three Stylish Techniques for Painting Your Home

A homeowner can add quick style to a room by choosing from several different painting techniques for the walls. You can easily make a DIY paint job look professional with certain painting techniques.

Before any type of painting is started, you must make sure you are prepared. This means keeping all your supplies at the ready, prepping the walls by filling in any holes or cracks and tapping off windows and trim with blue painter’s tape. Some special tools will be needed to accomplish certain painting techniques, so make sure that you get those as well.

Rag painting technique
Brushes and rollers are not used in any way with the rag painting technique. Instead, any type of cotton rag or a plain old t-shirt can be used to apply paint to the wall. This will create a marbled effect on the wall. To use the rag painting technique simply:
•	Dip the rag into a container filled with paint and shake the excess paint off.
•	Pat the wall with the rag in any pattern that you choose, but make sure that the patterns are not spread our too much.
•	Apply a darker based colour and then a lighter paint colour to add a more creative touch.

Sponge painting technique
A good technique that is used to give walls interest and depth is sponge painting or sponging. Before you can sponge paint you will need to apply a base colour to the wall. To use the sponge painting technique you should:
•	Take a regular sponge or sea sponge and immerse it into any paint or glaze of your choice.
•	Start on the outside of any wall and pat the sponge in a random pattern.
•	Complete all the walls with the sponge technique or only do one wall if that is what you feel like doing.

Colour washing technique
The painting technique of colour washing will add a subtle finish to the wall that will give the appearance of floating colour. This technique is great if you have a wall with quite a few flaws that you want to conceal. Other techniques are shorter than this one since, in colour washing, you need to build up layer in order to get the full effect. To colour wash simply:
•	Paint the wall in a base colour that you want and the wait for it to dry.
•	Paint another layer with another colour that is either slightly different or complimentary to the base.
•	Layer the paint using only a paint brush, ensuring you are applying the paint in different directions, going back over previous strokes so that the base colour shows in random areas.
•	Layer again with more colours if you want another or many colours to show through on the walls.

From a kitchen to a bedroom, these painting techniques can be used in any room. Not only are they a great way to add style to the walls, but they will also help liven up the room.

8 Simple Tips for Interior Painting

Many homeowners dread painting the interiors of their homes even though it can easily and instantly freshen up the home and provide it with a new look. If you have any knowledge of what to do and how to do it efficiently, painting you home’s interior will not be too hard and with a little advice and some tips from us it may even be easy.

Here are some basic tips and pieces of advice for your next home project involving interior painting.

1.	Try not to both prepare the area and paint it all in the same day. Doing both the prep and painting can lead to a bad paint job, this is because you will be rushed and unable to give the necessary time to both projects. Set up the painting space a day prior to simply prep the space for painting. If the room does not see too much foot traffic, the painting can be done a few days later. On the preparation day be sure to do things such as laying down drop clothes, gathering all painting supplies, taping the walls and moving the furniture.

2.	Do not ever paint over damaged walls. Fix any hole or cracks that your wall might have before you start painting. Drywall kits and sanding will easily fix cracks and holes ensuring a perfect finish. To guarantee that there will be time to sand the area down and time for the drywall plaster to dry, make sure that you do this prep work at least a day before you paint.

3.	Make sure you choose the best brush for the job. Go with natural bristles on your brush if you are using an oil-based paint. If the paint is water based or latex be sure to buy synthetic bristled brushes as they will work best with this type of paint. Foam rollers will be necessary for larger painting areas. When painting the trim and windows make sure to use smaller brushes.

4.	If the professional look is what you are going for on your walls you will definitely need to use a primer before painting. Your paint will go on much smoother and you will avoid tainting the colour with a previous wall colour by using a primer. You might be able to avoid a second coat of base colour on the walls by tinting you primer to match your base coat colour.

5.	Painter’s blue tape is best for making sure that you do not get paint on areas such as doorway frames, trim and windows. If you do not want paint to go on a certain area apply this tape to the surface of the area. Also, if you do not want paint to seep into an area be sure to apply this tape to the surface of the area. When the paint has dried simply remove the tape from the area and do not worry at all about any paint coming with it, this is normal.

6.	In the case of any mistakes, make sure to have plenty of old rags around. Your brush may hit something that it should not, or you might drop some paint on the trim, mistakes are inevitable.

7.	Be sure to paint in even strokes if you want to get an even coat. Make sure that you have enough light in the room to see where you are painting and where you might have missed.

8.	Keep your leftover paint for future fixes and touch-ups. If you do not want to keep the can, transfer your left over paint to a glass jar with a tight lid. The date, the room the paint was used in and its exact colour should all be labelled on the jar.

There should not be anything scary about painting the interior of your home. Following these easy steps will get you on your way to changing your home’s décor in no time.

How You can Pick Out the Perfect Colour for Your Child’s Room

Even if you have most of your house decorated a neutral beige colour, it is always fun to try something different with a child’s bedroom. After all, the word “child” conjures up splendid images of lively little bodies and these images could be replicated to make your child’s room an expression of themselves. The gender of your child might also have an impact on the colours you choose for the bedroom, but you ought to provide the child with as much input into the colours being used that you sense he or she can deal with. We live in a world filled up with colour, so the colour of our children’s bedrooms must excite and invigorate us.

Never permit the child’s gender to be the only criteria for the colours you decide on. Some boys might prefer the tranquillity of a cooler palette and some girls might like the bright and flashy colours but this is not always the case. Never make the error of considering that a frilly, ballerina bedroom decorated in pastel shades of pink plus lavender will make a lady out of your little tomboy. Conversely, designing a fancy football bedroom is not going to help make your son become a star athlete. It is much better to choose a colour based on what your child prefers, even if it is not exactly what you might have decided on.

You really do not need to go crazy with your usage of colours, especially if the bedroom is very small. A lot of the time it is wise to paint the walls a basic colour and then employ accent pieces, stencils, posters or a wallpaper border. If you do want shiny colours on the walls, consider only painting a single wall with them and then extend the colour by utilising matching accessories. You can adhere to one colour group or maybe use several contrasting colours as long as you do it tastefully.

Just as trends in bedroom decorating change for adults, they change for the kids too. The good news is you already keep up to date with your child’s interests so finding a design that matches their little personas will not be too challenging.

Think outside the box with regards to colours for your child’s living space. If you would like genuine and original recommendations ask your child, because he or she is not limited by what present fashion suggests is correct. Plus if you let your little one in on the decision making they are far more likely to take pride in it too.

Look at palettes that you have never taken into account, for example all white or a room with one black wall. “What?” you will probably ask, “why on earth would I wish to use black paint in my child’s bedroom?” The simple truth is having a small patch of black can give you a showcase wall for many bright coloured objects and art work. Think outside the box and put some creative thought into your child’s bedroom, they will truly appreciate it.
